Then the Special Educator Academy is for you!
Let's face it, being a special educator can be really rewarding! We love what we do. But it can also be isolating and sometimes it's really hard to figure out what to do.
I'm creating the Special Educator Academy to
What is the SEA?
The Special Educator Academy (SEA) is a membership site opening at the beginning of September. I am super excited to share some of the early details with you. And you can sign up to get notifications so you will be able to get in on early bird pricing. Members will pay a monthly or annual fee for full access to the content.
My plan for the academy is that it will allow special educators (teachers, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, counselors, behavior analysts, etc.) to enrich their professional skills, problem solve with colleagues with similar skills and share ideas.
I also am planning it as a way for me to interact with the special educator community more. I was trying to figure out how to put my trainings online and decided a membership site was a good fit because of the ongoing interaction.
If you are a special educator looking for learning, connection and community, the Special Educator Academy may be what you need! #specialed

Online Course Library
The course library will continue growing indefinitely! So as long as you are member, you will have access to the new courses.
The courses will take between 3 to 8 hours to complete, but you will be able to take separate pieces you think you need. They will be a combination of text and video and divided into 15 to 25 minute segments (or shorter). I want them to be something you can do a little of and come back to. You will be able to track your progress in the course so you can go back to where you left off each time.
In addition, you will be able to send me private messages and share "assignments" for feedback from me. For instance, you can send me your schedule for ideas. I just added this feature and I'm super psyched about it.
Plan for Content
My plan is to start with a completed course on Organizing Classrooms and over the next few months I'll be adding Taming the Data Monster and Behavioral Support.
I'm also working on how I can customize the courses so there are materials for new and veteran teachers. Let's face it, being a new teacher is a lot different than when you have some years under your belt. So I want to make sure you all have something to help at whatever stage you are in.
The courses will have learning objectives, descriptions, and certificates of completion you can take to your district to ask for professional development credit. Most of those on the current waiting list indicated this wasn't a big deal for them. But if you can get credit for it, you might as well!
Monthly Live Sessions (Will Be Recorded)
At the moment I'm planning for one Live session per month, but it may grow to two or more depending on the discussions in the forum. These will be topics based on discussions from the community forum and will include the opportunity to submit or ask questions that I will answer.
I'll tell you a secret...this is my favorite part because I love getting to interact with you! And the sessions will definitely be recorded, so if you can't attend or want to review it another time, you can watch it!
I am planning a community forum within the website. I considered using a private Facebook group, but I've had several people say they would be more comfortable with a private group off Facebook.
I also know from experience that finding threads with useful information in Facebook is almost impossible. And I want this to be something with real-time discussion but also to be able to share past discussions and resources when questions come up. I think a forum on the site will work best for this. It will have a lot of the same features as a Facebook group, so we won't lose that!
Mini Trainings - Webinars
These will be shorter quick wins to share a strategy or show an idea. It might be reviewing through someone's schedule from the site or a short overview of how to use video modeling effectively in the classroom. Many of them will probably be live, especially at first. My goal is for these to be quickly digestible pieces you can implement quickly or that solve a problem. I'm thinking these will be posted once a month and build into a library.
